The Story

These handcrafted intricate filigree earrings are replicas of traditional earrings specific to Oaxaca and principally the Tlacolula Valley. The traditional garb of this region consists of heavily embroidered garments accessorized with large amounts of gold jewelry....often gold filigree earrings like these!  Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter, was my inspiration for going to Oaxaca. During her lifetime she adopted the traditional Tehuana attire as a means of showing her solidarity with the strong women of this matriarchal Zapotec society. These are brilliant in every respect.

  • 2” L x .75” W
  • Latch hook pierced backs
  • Double bathed in gold to create the bright traditional finish, fresh water pearls and black and sparkle crystals
  • Handcrafted in Taxco by an artisan family with experience in filigree

** Of the extra pictures one is of the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán in the center of Oaxaca City.
