Feliz Cinco de May

Surely, Mexico is one of those places that’s on your bucket list to visit. Who wouldn’t want to go there, really? The country is so rich in culture, art and history! It is the home of the beloved Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo, the lovely actress Salma Hayek, and if you are a film buff, Mexico is home to Academy Award-winning film director, screenwriter and producer, Alfonso Cuarón.

More than being a home to these iconic individuals, Mexico has so much to offer. From seaside getaways, interesting architectural ruins full of history, to rich indigenous culture exemplified on beautifully handwoven textiles; wherein each embroidery is used as means to communicate.

Not to mention the traditional practice of jewelry making which began way back---even before the arrival of the Spaniards. Silver is the most common metal used for fine jewelry with Taxco, Guerrero as the center for this craft. Though gold jewelry making is not as popular as silver it is still evident in Mexico, especially in areas such as Taxco and Iguala. In Oaxaca, locals are focused on making gold filigree as a central part of the gold jewelry trade.

Today, we celebrate Cinco de Mayo and we can’t help but be reminded by beautiful hand crafted jewelry pieces curated by JJ Caprices Founder, Jennifer Jedda. Just by looking at these jewelry pieces, we are transported back to Mexico! Seriously! And since we know that you’ll be out and about celebrating this day, we came up with these lovely sets to give you styling ideas and inspirations featuring our favorite jewelry pieces from our shop!
